Karachai-Cherkess women drivers were free on March 8

Cherkessk/Agency Caucasus – The Republic of Karachai-Cherkessia set the female drivers free on March 8, when the International Women’s Day is celebrated annually.

The Karachai-Cherkess police were ordered not to fine female drivers on March 8 as long as they were not involved in gross violations of the traffic rules. At the end of the day, it was seen that no female driver was fined.

The female drivers in Karachai-Cherkessia only make up five percent of the total population of drivers. They usually drive luxe cars. Unlike their male counterparts, they obey the rules for the most part.

A police officer who did not disclose his name said that female drivers had two faults and two excuses that they made in ordinary days: They tend to resort to the excuse that they left their papers in their spare handbags when they are asked to submit papers; or they resort to the excuse that fastening seat belts would wrinkle their sheet or jacket when they are detected with the seat belts loosened. Both excuses work to convince the police officer that it is not necessary to fine the driver.

The traffic statistics of Karachai-Cherkessia show that 298 accidents happened in 2007, in which 56 died and 433 were injured. The rate of death toll caused by traffic accidents rose by 22 percent. KU/ÖZ/FT
