Vladikavkaz/Agency Caucasus – President Eduard Kokoity of South Ossetia was selected man of the year according to the Caucasian People’s newspaper, which is published across Vladikavkaz, capital of North Ossetia.
Most readers of the newspaper voted for Kokoity in a competition that the newspaper organized to specify the public support for the best few men in Caucasus of 2007, said Chief Editor Arthur Kotsoyev.
The people of South Ossetia maintained utmost trust in Kokoyti, said Kotsoyev, because he has managed to give the people regular pay rises in spite of the economic instability as a result of the trouble with Georgia, and he has helped to boost up economy by having new buildings constructed as well. It is so significant that even the people of 18 Georgian villages in the conflict area expressed willingness to join South Ossetia, added Kotsoyev: "Kokoyti is popular all over North Caucasus; he is successful and he deserves the title as man of the year."
