Abkhazia calls for Russia to protect its waters

Sukhum/Agency Caucasus – Abkhazia has had to call for assistance from to supply protection for Abkhazia’s territorial waters after the Abkhazian administration failed to receive a guarantee from to remain friendly and never launch an attack.  

The security of the Abkhazian territorial waters were put at a serious risk as Georgia insisted on its full membership to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), did not refrain from armament, and remained aggressive towards Abkhazia, said Nugzar Ashuba, Speaker of the Abkhazian Parliament.

“The Abkhazian administration has called for to supply protection for Abkhazia’s territorial waters,” said Ashuba.

The Abkhazian Air Forces closed its airspace down in order to stop Georgian spy drones from entering the Abkhazian airspace without permission, said Sergei Bagapsh, President of Abkhazia, and added that now the Abkhazian administration would do the same thing for its territorial waters.    

According to the Abkhazian president, the Russian peacekeeping forces currently deployed in the region have charge of the continuous supplying of security at sea, land and air. “We are currently working [with ] on how to maintain security at sea.” 

Tbilisi says it will view it as the launch of a military attack

On the other side,explicitly stated that it would view it as a military attack if foreign military ships entered the Georgian territorial waters. The statement came from Nikoloz Rurua, member of the Commission on Defence and Security of the Georgian Parliament. “ will definitely not allow anybody, except its own naval forces, to enter its territorial waters and take the control of them.” FT
