Ingush villagers revolt against President Zyazikov

Magas/Agency Caucasus – The people of a village in Ingushetia rose in revolt against President Murat Ziyazikov.

The people of Kantishevo, a village of Nazranovski province in Ingushetia, staged a demonstration and called for Zyazikov’s dismissal from office. The Kantishevo people voiced their anger at Zyazikov in words that dismissed him as incapable of handling administrative affairs, and called for Russia’s President Vladimir Putin’s intervention to resolve this issue.

The villagers sent a formal letter to Putin, which read as follows: "Vladimir Vladimirovich; Murat Zyazikov is cheating you with his words of praise for the developing economic situation in the country. We want to know where exactly the housing project that covered an area of 3 million square meters took place and where the 80 industrial companies were built. Will the President of Ingushetia get away with this obvious act of lying? There is more poverty than ever. Both government officers and local authorities are involved in acts of cheating to benefit themselves financially. Such people also speak words of praise for Zyazikov when they are allowed to cheat their own people. Most of us are unemployed and have to bribe officials to find a job. We have kids who have no future whatsoever…"

Magomed Yandiyev organized the protest in his own village that attracted participation from a group of 100 people. Similar protests would take place in other villages, as well, said Yandiyev: "The people here realized that they could not bear it anymore. We hope that the Moscow administration will give a hearing to our demands."

The Ingush people are also upset about the federal forces terrorizing them under the pretense of hunting resisters. ÖZ/FT
