Zakayev backs proposal to set up independent commission

London/Agency Caucasus – Words of support came from Ahmet Zakayev, Prime Minister of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, to a proposal to set up a commission of independent experts and thus to seek a solution to disagreement among Chechens over the resistance leader Doku Umarov’s declaration of Caucasian Emirate.

The proposal came from Faruk Hasuhanov, Head of the Sharia Commission of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, to establish a committee of muslim scholars, international politicians as well as lawyers and Chechen representatives.

Zakayev’s words signaled readiness on the part of his government for future cooperation with the commission in question. His government would welcome all types of efforts to reinforce both the Chechens and their resistance, Zakayev said. "The government of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria is prepared to enter into dialogue with the Chechen society unless the topic for negotiation is independence of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria."  CHPRS/ÖZ/FT
