Ossetians declare 2008 as Year of Transdniester

– Eduard Kokoiti, President of South Ossetia, has declared 2008 the ‘Year of Transdniester’ in order to improve his country’s relations with Transdniester, with which his country is cooperating to get its independence recognized.

The Year of Transdniester activities contain competitions in sports and arts between the two republics, exhibitions and several other kinds of programs that will contribute to the improvement of mutual relations. Talks will also be held between members of the parliaments, governments and other public institutions of the two countries.

Yuri Morozov, Prime Minister of South Ossetia, was appointed as Chair of a special commission that will be in charge of the above-mentioned activities.

The commission contains deputy prime minister, deputy speaker of the parliament, several ministers and representatives of non-governmental organizations. It will submit until March 30 its calendar of activities for voting. In 2007, Karachai-Cherkessia declared it the Year of South Ossetia. OSRDY/ÖZ/FT
