N. Ossetia to cooperate with Chechnya and Ingushetiya

Vladikavkaz/Agency Caucasus – The murder of Vitali Karayev, Mayor of Vladikavkaz, has impelled North Ossetia’s President Teymuraz Mansurov to announce plans to cooperate with Chechnya and Ingushetiya, two republics that neighbour North Ossetia, in the fight against terrorism.

"We have agreed with Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov, Ingush President Yunus-bek Yevkurov and South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity to join forces together in the battle against terrorism," Mamsurov said. "We do our best when we help the federal organs of the administration, which I hope will help to yield the desired results."

Mamsurov denied the possibility of success to future attempts by terrorists to create chaos in North Ossetia, and vowed never to allow anything like the Beslan School hostage crisis to happen again.     There is recently an increase in the acts of violence in North Ossetia. On November 26, Karayev was killed with a single shot to the heart. Three people were killed on November 27 when a vehicle came under a gunfire in the capital city. On November 6, a female suicide bomber exploded herself in Vladikavkaz, killing 12 instantly.

On September 22, the personal car of Mayran Tamayev, Deputy Mayor of Vladikavkaz, was exploded, an event that Tamayev survived with slight wounds to various parts of his body. Since the beginning of 2008, three chief police officers were killed in Vladikavkaz. None of the three attacks have been cleared up, however.
