ECHR convicts Russia once again

Strasbourg – The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) convicted once again of crimes it committed in during its war with . 

The ECHR sentenced to pay €75,000 in compensation to the family of two brothers kidnapped in 2000. Lom Ali and Umar Ali, two brothers, were never heard of after they were kidnapped half-naked by Russian troops in September 2000 in the middle of the night. Lech Aziyev, the father, was hospitalized at that time after he received an injury in his head, his lips, stomach, and experienced a temporary state of blindness. Zulay Aziyeva, the mother, claims to have seen the names of her sons in a list of those detained in a military base in , although officials decline to confirm her claims, according to the court records. The ECHR sentenced to pay compensation to the family of the two kidnapped brothers on the grounds that it kept turning a blind eye to demands from the family to launch an investigation into the whereabouts of the two brothers.
