Dokshokov appointed as Karachay-Cherkessia’s new Speaker of Parliament

Cherkessk/Agency Caucasus – Zurab Dokshokov, of Adygei (Circassian) origin, who had been nominated by the ruling political party, the United Russia, was unanimously elected Speaker of the Parliament.

Dokshokov’s constructive as well as unifying role earned him full support from the Communist Party, the Just Russia and the Liberal Democratic Party.

When Boris Ebzeyev was appointed as President of Karachay-Cherkessia, the tradition of the Adygei people coming to office was discontinued. Ebzeyev was expected to appoint an Adygei man as speaker of the parliament so that the ethnic political balance of representation could be maintained.

After Ebzeyev dismissed Alik Kardanov as an Adygei Prime Minister, he appointed Vladimir Kayshev, of Greek origin, as Prime Minister.

This drew reaction from non-governmental organizations in Adygea. All Adygei people were then called on to discuss the idea of joining the forces together for a Great Cherkessia.

Sergey Smorodin, who preceded Dokshokov, was appointed as First Deputy Prime Minister, who will represent Karachay-Cherkessia in Moscow.

Ebzeyev said that Karachay-Cherkessia could not fulfill its potential and therefore it benefits twice less from the national projects when compared with Adygea. He also said that Smorodin was sent to Moscow so that his country could benefit far more from the national projects.
