British JKX buys license to run Adygean resources

The JKX Oil and Gas plc, a British company of energy, bought the license to run a natural gas resource in Abkhazia as part of its plans to show future interest in the resources of natural gas available in North Caucasus.

The JKX purchased for $50mn from Yuzhgazenergie, or SouthGasEnergy in English, the license to operate ‘fully’ the Adygean resource of natural gas in Koshehable. Eighty percent of the whole amount was already paid in cash. The company plans to initiate work to obtain natural gas from this resource next summer.

Two and a half billion cubic meters of natural gas were obtained from the Koshehable resource from when it was first discovered in 1972 to when it was suspended in 2006. A further 3.2bn cubic meters of natural gas is still available, scientifically proved estimates say. Additional work might boost it up to 6bn cubic meters. (Agency Caucasus)
