Berlin/Agency Caucasus – Documentary film ‘Berzah’ about abductions in Chechnya and directed by Lithuanian director Mantas Kvedaravicius was displayed at the opening of documentary program of Berlin International Movie Festival and won the Amnesty International jury special award.
Human rights defender and one of the script writers of the movie Ahmed Gisayev said ‘Berzah’ was chosen among 1 thousand movies submitted for the opening of the festival and it’s very important’.
According to Gisayev’s statement ‘Berzah’ means the place, where souls of the dead people wait until doomsday’. “In the movie abducted people’s families are being shown and their world reminds berzah. Other heroes of the movie are people who disappeared, were abducted and could return back, they were all tortured and they were on the line between life and death” Gisayev said.
Movie, devoted to murdered human rights defender Natalia Estemirova, can be watched by everybody after international festivals. But Gisayev worries about whether the movie can be on the screen in Russia.
Berlin International Movie Festival, which was organized every year since 1951, recognized as one of the most important film festivals in the world. KU/OZ/CY
