Agreement between Russia and EU victimizes Chechens

Moscow/Agency Caucasus – The new law on restitution of immigrants between the countries of the European Union (EU) and of the had a Chechen to victimize on its first day of effectiveness.

Said Batalov, a Chechen who was denied in May permission to seek refuge in , was deported to Moscow, the capital of .  

"The Republic of Czech sent off the Chechen-born Said Batalov to . He is now in Moscow , and will be released after he is questioned by officials of the Federal Migration Service," said Konstantin Poltoranin, a senior official from the Service.

The visa agreement, adopted May 2006 between and the EU, has taken effect as from November 23. It is designed to make it easier to restitute illegal refugees. The Chechen  refugees were expected to be influenced most by the law.
