Abkhaz television celebrates its 30th anniversary

Sukhum/Agency Caucasus – The official television channel of Abkhazia celebrated its 30th anniversary on November 6. 

Chief executives of Abkhazia’s television channel that employs a staff of 600 visited President Sergey Bagapsh. 

The president gave a token to the veterans of the television channel. He said that the year 1978 was an important turning point in the national history of the Abkhaz people who always fought for freedom.

After he paid homage to all former executives of the television channel, he wished all members of the staff good luck.  

The television channel of Abkhazia was launched in 1978. Its first Abkhazian speakers were Kama Copua and Leonid Hishba. Its ‘Amsheikushara’ news bulletins about politics, economics, society and culture are still available to watch all around the country. 

News bulletins are made available three times a day. Special programmes of amusement and culture for children are also available.  

As of 2009, the Abkhaz State Television & Radio Institution plans to increase the number of hours during which programmes are to be aired. It also plans to make news bulletins available six times a day.
