Tskhinval/Agency Caucasus – A South Ossetian intelligence source put the number of Georgian captives at 200, although official reports do not disclose the number of people taken captive either by Russian or Georgian troops.
However, Anatoli Nogovitsin, Deputy Chief of the Russian General Staff, said on Wednesday that 19 Russian soldiers were missing, possibly taken captive by Georgian troops.
Russian prosecutors question the Georgian captives about the killing of some members of the Russian peace keeping force. There is a likelihood that Georgian captives may be exchanged with Ossetian and Russian captives.
