Prime Minister Ahmed Zakayev of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria wrote a congratulatory letter to Hashim Thachi, Prime Minister of Kosovo, a central European country that has just recently declared its independence.
Zakayev congratulated all Kosovans on their eventual attainment of an independent state status. Zakayev said that Chechens were pleased to see Kosovans as their independent brothers because Chechens had been fighting to gain independence for 14 years now, as well.
Zakayev hailed Kosovo’s declaration of independence as a milestone in the last half century that international affairs had not been determined by the Security Council of the United Nations, or UN, in which five countries hold a right to veto–meaning that the power of the minority at the UN Security Council to veto was now outdated because it was not any more as effective as it was before.
Where there was no respect for the rights of peoples, there could be no respect for the human rights, said Zakayev and added that the victory of Kosovans should be regarded as the victory of the democratic world. "It is no wonder that the totalitarian regimes structured under the leadership of Russia, a country which colonizes tens of peoples by violating the human rights, object to Kosovo’s independence," said Zakayev and wished Kosovans good luck with their efforts to have a bright future and state organization.
