Voice of Beslan sues Interior Ministries

Beslan/Agency Caucasus – The Voice of Beslan, a non-governmental organization that strived hard to disclose the accountability of government officials for the tragic efforts to contain the Beslan school hostage crisis in 2004, sued the Interior Ministries of both Russia and North Ossetia.

The Interior Ministries of both countries ought to pay compensation to the hostage victims, the Voice of Beslan officials claimed. "We were told that the Ministry of Finance should solve this issue," said Ella Kesayeva, Co-Chairman of the Voice of Beslan. "We are against that because we think that the interior ministries are responsible for solving it. Oddly enough, we were rejected by the Ministry of Finance."

Relatives of two hostage victims applied to the Ministry of Finance, according to Kesayeva, but, she added, they were told that they had already received compensation for damages in the form of humanitarian aid. Kesayeva then said that this was unacceptable.
Although the Voice of Beslan sent petitions to Tamerlan Aguzarov, the President Judge of the High Court of North Ossetia, none of them were responded to, Kesayeva said.

"If Aguzarov chooses to remain silent, we will apply to higher levels of officials," said Kesayeva.
