Istanbul – Parliament Speaker Zhalaudi Saralyapov of Chechen Republic of Ichkeria appointed a new prime minister after he took over the powers of former President Doku Umarov of Chechen Republic of Ichkeria when he announced himself as the Emir of Caucasus.
Saralyapov said that he regarded Umarov’s announcement as an act of resignation on his part.
Ahmet Zakayev, who resigned as Foreign Minister of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, was appointed as the prime minister after Saralyapov released his decision to do so in a statement today. Zakayev was asked to submit his list of cabinet members within 15 days. CHPRS/FT
