Rostov-on-Don/Agency Caucasus – A round-table meeting named “Primary Measures against use of expression ‘Circasssian Issue’ in the rise of tensions in North Caucasia” took place in Rostov-on-Don. Propagandizing Russian thesis and censoring independent scientist’s researches about history of Caucasia are put forward as ‘scientific’ goals in the final declaration.
Mikhail Rozin, Head of North Caucasia Science Center at South Federal University, stated that the idea of creating a joint regional center that will work on North Caucasia was declared at the meeting: “The necessity to combine future studies about Caucasian War in the 19 century and todays ‘Circassian Issue’ already arouse. Because of that, the idea to create a joint center was declared at the meeting”.
“We put forth this idea at the meeting. At the moment we are considering the issue with our colleagues, but it’s still too early to talk about opening date and executives of the center” said Rozin.
The center will study on three main topics: Firstly, the experience of North Caucasian people’s integration to the structure of Russia and consideration of Circassian Issue within the scope of this experience. Secondly, suitability of use of word ‘Genocide’ to law. Thirdly, highlighting ‘favorable’ moments in the history of Russia – North Caucasia.
Apart from that, South Russian scientists came to an agreement about publishing results of studies made by center and not publishing ‘destabilizing’ and ‘made up’ critics and commentaries.
Declaration also says: “It is needed to spread research materials both in Russia and in countries which has a high Circassian population like Abkhazia, Turkey, USA etc.”
The expression ‘Circassian Issue’ expresses the issue of restoring the rights of Circassian people who were subjected to genocide and were exiled from their homeland. Significance of this topic is increasing day by day, as the preparations for 2014 Sochi Olympics keep going.
