Vladikavkaz/Agency Caucasus – The proposal to hold on a referendum on combining South Ossetia with North Ossetia was denied approval in the Parliament of North Caucasus.
The proposal came from the North Ossetia bureau of the Liberal Democratic Party led by Vladimir Jirinovsky.
It was also proposed that the presidential office of North Ossetia should not exist any longer and local elections be held in Vladikavkaz.
News of the denial of approval to the proposal came from Vladimir Rubayev, who chairs the Committee of Legislation and Local Administration. "It was concluded that holding a referendum would constitute a violation of the federal law," he said to express the reason for the disapproval.
On the other hand, the Communist Party supported the idea of combining North Ossetia with South Ossetia. This idea was formerly voiced six times by the Communists. KU/ÖZ/FT
