Nalchik/Agency Caucasus – The Parliament of Kabardino-Balkaria issued a call for the taking of measures against recent racist attacks on people of Caucasian origin who live in Moscow, capital of Russia.
The city assembly of Moscow was called on to take measures against xenophobia so that the worry about the increasing ethnic hatred could be reduced substantially.
Three Kabarda-Balkars were killed in February either by skinheads, or neo-Nazis or extreme Russian nationalists. Non-governmental organizations in Kabardino-Balkaria afterwards sent a letter to Russia’s Federation Vladimir Putin to do something to stop further attacks.
Valeri Hatijukov, Chair of the Kabarda-Balkar Center for Human Rights said that it was good that the parliament issued the call: "If such calls had been made every time attacks were launched, the casualty would have been lesser. In my opinion, it is necessary not only to appeal to members of the parliament but also to the federal organs of the enforcement. KU/RE/ÖZ/FT
