Dagestani police kill civilians

Makhachkala/Agency Caucasus – Three civilians were killed in a police raid on Friday night on an apartment building in Makhachkala, capital of Dagestan.

The police carried out a surprise raid on a flat on the fourth floor of a nine-storey apartment building on the Street of Aligaji Akushinsky in the capital city. The police killed a 30-year-old professor of foreign languages at the State University of Dagestan, his wife and an unidentified man. It was said in a statement from the Interior Ministry of Dagestan that the professor was killed because he was thought to be a close ally of the resisters. Also, after the professor, his wife and the other man were ordered to give themselves in to the police, they started to fire at the police, the Interior Ministry said in its statement.

The killing of the professor and his wife was recorded by the Interior Ministry of Dagestan to be "a mission accomplished against terrorism."
