Communist Street renamed to read name of Solsa Hadji Yandar

Caharkala/Agency Caucasus – The name of the Communist Street in Caharkala, capital of Chechnya, was changed to read the Solsa Hadji Yandar street.

Solsa Hadji Yandar is a well-known, early 20th century muslim scholar who had many followers not only in Chechnya but also in many other parts of the Caucasus.

The re-naming of the street came in an official decision signed by Muslim Huchiyev, Mayor of Chechnya. This official decision was taken in a positive response to demands from the followers of Yandar to keep his name alive, it was said in an official statement released from the municipality. It was also welcome as a sign of open support for strengthening Islam in Chechnya.

Solsa Hadji Yandar was one of the muslim scholars who got arrested by the Bolsheviks and were sent into exile. He came to be a leading figure, like Sheik Deni Arsan, of the Nakshibandi movement in Chechnya.

Just like his father Ahmed Kadyrov, Ramzan Kadyrov, President of the puppet administration in Chechnya, is also a follower of the Qadiri sect, another important religious movement prevalent in Chechnya. Jokhar Dudayev, the first president of Chechnya, was a follower of the Qadiri sect, which emerged through the efforts of Kunta Hadji in the country in the 19th century. KU/ÖZ/FT
