Chechen resistance suffers heavy loss

Caharkala/Agency Caucasus – The Chechen resistance suffered a heavy lose while fighting in Chechnya against the Russian invasion forces.

Four Chechen resistance fighters, including Ruslan Seriyev, who was the commander of the Chechen resistance in the two provinces Shatoi and Sharoi, were killed in a special operation.

The fighting broke up between the Chechen resistance fighters and the Russian troops on Friday morning when the Chechen resistance fighters opened fire on two Russian military vehicles en route to the Day village of Shatoi, according to Ruslan Alkhanov, the Interior Minister of the puppet Chechen government. This later led the security forces in Shatoi, Sharoi and Tum-Kalinski, along with the troops of the seventh brigade, to launch a broad-scale military operation. The four Chechen resisters were killed during this operation. Alkhanov said that neither the Russian troops nor the security forces suffered a loss. Two of the four killed Chechens were identified as Zelimhan Shuyipov and Lema Hanzalatov; however, the fourth one could not be named, Alkhanov said.

The Russian Interior Ministry put the 2008 death-toll of the Chechen resistance at 18–a figure that does not contain the official records after February 8. In January alone, 51 Chechen resisters or their supporters were detained. KU/ÖZ/FT
