Agency Caucasus – What followed the signing of pacts for ‘cooperation, friendship and mutual aid’ between Russia and South Ossetia and Abkhazia was Abkhazian President Sergei Bagapsh’s hailing of Russia on September 17 as the guarantor of stability and peace among nations.
The Abkhazian president was pleased to announce after the signing ceremony in the Kremlin that a legal, democratic state would soon be established in Abkhazia: “I would like to wish a peace, stability and might to Russia,” Bagapsh was quoted by the Regnum news agency as saying. “When Russia is strong, there will be peace and stability, mutual respect of nations to each other everywhere around it.”
Russia’s President Dmitri Medvedev signed at a solemn ceremony in the Kremlin on September 17 documents of friendship, cooperation and mutual aid with both Presidents of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, Eduard Kokoity and Sergey Bagapsh.
