Maykop/Agency Caucasus – Vladimir Ustinov, former Russian Minister of Justice, was expected to take constructive steps after he had been appointed by President Dimitri Medvedev of Russia as Russia’s special representative for the Southern Federal Regions, said Aslan Thakushinov, President of Adygeia.
After Dimitri Medvedev came to office in early May this year, he made new appointments as special representatives for the federal regions of Russia. Ustinov is one of those new appointments.
Ustinov is "cautiously" expected to take constructive steps because one of his predecessors, namely Dmitri Kozak, caused a huge wave of public reaction when he proposed that Adygeia should be stripped off its status as a republic and be rather a subset of Krasnodar Krai.
Asked to comment on the appointment of Ustinov as the new special representative of Russia for its federal regions in the south, Thakushinov said that Ustinov would hopefully work towards the social as well as economic improvement of the whole region because Ustinov has come to be known for his efforts to ensuring the security on all levels of individual, society and state. "We regard his as someone who shares our ideals because he started his career in Kuban and worked for many years as the public prosecutor in Sochi. As may be well known, we maintain good friendly as well as commercial relations with Krasnodar Krai. And we hope that Ustinov will support our will to attend the 2014 Winter Olympic Games of Sochi.
