Sukhum/Agency Caucasus – Nugzar Logua, an artist, and the Abkhazian Minister of Culture, was awarded a prize of excellence after he ranked first in an annual competition of painting.
Among the artists whose paintings were exhibited at the central hall of the Abkhazian Artists’ Union were Lasha Gabeliya ranked second, while Ruslan Chamaliya ranked third.
There was a higher turnout for the competition compared with the one in the past years, said Elvira Arsaliya, the head official of the exhibition center: "It was very good in the year 2007, because there were a lot of art as well photograph exhibitions. We hope that it will also be good this year, because there are many plans already for exhibitions in the next couple of months."
The works of competitors will remain on display until mid January. ÖZ/FT
