Abkhazia seeks to improve ties with federal regions

Rostov-na-Donu/Agency Caucasus – As a state whose independence has been recognized by the administration of Russia, Abkhazia seeks to improve its relations with the North Caucasus as well as with other regions in the south that are all a part of the Russian Federation.

Abkhazia seeks to improve its relations with the federal regions south of Russia, said Konstantin Uzgan, the Abkhaz envoy who joined in Rostov-na-Donu the 8th International South of Russia Entrepreneurship: Investment and Development Forum.

Abkhazia has been a member country of the North Caucasian Union for 10 years, Uzgan said: "Abkhazia is now an independent country and it is interested in establishing strong political and economic relations with the Federal Southern Regions. The economic development strategy that was dealt with during the forum is of considerable importance to Abkhazia."

Abkhazia would be influenced positively if Russia, the only country that economically supports Abkhazia, kept developing dynamically, said Uzgan, and added that Russians should consider Abkhazia, besides Sochi, as the country where they could have a nice holiday. The administration of Abkhazia tries hard to get Abkhazia included in the Golden Chain of Holidays.

Tours should cover Abkhazia, Uzgan said and added that the ecologically clean atmosphere of Abkhazia would eventually earn the country more advantages than ever: "It is no wonder that products that come to Russia from Turkey are called the Abkhaz products. We are linked tightly to each other in the field of culture. We will also collaborate with Russia in the fields of defence and security, because Abkhazia has already signed an agreement of military collaboration with Russia."

A group of officials from the Parliament of Kaliningrad visited Abkhaz officials in Sukhum. There are preparations under way for the launch of collaboration between Abkhazia and Chechnya. Another group of officials from the autonomous region of Hantimanski visited Sukhum on October 20, and eight days later, Abkhazia signed a protocol of collaboration with Penzen.

Abkhazia signed a memorandum of collaboration with Vologoski on September 20. On September 18, the parliament of Abkhazia agreed to collaborate with its counterpart in Voronejski.
