New book: Caucasia in Ottoman Documents

Istanbul/Agency Caucasus – A book, prepared by Mustafa Ozsaray, Caucasia in Ottoman Documents 1(War and Exile 1871-1918) was published Caucasus Foundation.

In the book there are 111 documents (along with original ones in Ottoman language) about Russo-Caucasian wars, Caucasia-Ottoman relations, exile, settlement of Caucasians in Ottoman Empire and diplomatic relations. These documents were chosen among five thousands documents which were collected by Caucasia in Ottoman Records working group of Caucasus foundation.

The book was simplified by Mustafa Ozsaray so that many readers can make use of it. Historical terms and names of establishments, posts and document kinds were not changed during the simplification process but required explanations were given as postscripts so that readers can understand them. At the start of the documents, which were aligned chronologically, there are code numbers of Ottoman Records, hijri and normal dates and summary of documents.

Some of the topics that were stated in the documents are: Russia’s preparations to invade Caucasia, correspondence of central administration of Ottoman Empire with their officers in Caucasia, information about famous Caucasian leaders, processes of war, exile and settlement and Caucasians organizing attempts in Istanbul.
