Khase blamed administration for attack on Yaganov

Nalchik/Agency Caucasus – NGO “Khase” published a public declaration about the attack on leader of organization, Ibrahim Yaganov.

Organization claimed that the attack is aimed at the conference, which was planned to be organized with participation of civil society and political circles, about economical, social and judicial problems of Kabardino-Balkaria.

According to the Khase’s declaration, to find a place for the conference, which was planned to be organized on 16 July, they reached an agreement with Federation of Trade Unions but the Federation canceled the agreement later due to refurbishment. After Khase’s leader Ibrahim Yaganov met with Federation leader’s secretary Faina Ahaeva, federation leader appealed to the court claming that “Yaganov insulted his secretary”. Kazakh representative of Mayski region Eduard Burla was summoned to regional administration and he was “forbidden” from participating conference.

According to the Khase executives, the fact that conference could be postponed for a couple of days (23 July) but was not canceled in spite of the all troubles shows the motive behind the attack on Yaganov. Declaration says: “We think that, these experiences indicated that, administration of Kabardino-Balkaria is not interested in free dialog, is against free civil society and has no will to solve amassed problems in the country”.

In the night of 19 July Yaganov was attacked by five unknown attackers in front of his home. According to the reports, attackers used iron bats, and Yaganov who was heavily injured and hospitalized after the attack is in good condition and was discharged from the hospital. He will be treated at his home.

There is no explanation yet from the administration of Kabardino-Balkaria related to the claims about attack on Yaganov or conference.
