– Large groups of people in Ingushetia are expected to stage a mass demonstration soon against hundreds of killings and kidnappings that took place over the past couple of years.

Ingush President Murat Zyazikov is the prime target for public scorn, which will be demonstrated in a public rally against him on January 26. There is nothing wrong with the public’s choice of Zyazikov as the target for its scornful demonstration, because he chose to remain silent about intelligent reports that led to immediate police raids first on Chechen refugees in the near past and then now on the groups of Ingushes who are regarded as being dangerous.

There is one strange thing about the upcoming mass rally against the president: the demonstrators will complain about Zyazikov to ‘s President Vladimir Putin, a political leader who is being held responsible for both his military and non-military policies that turned the whole of North Caucasus into an insecure land of terrorism. Maksharip Aushev, one of the few people who are organizing this demonstration, said on January 16 in his statement that the demonstration would be intended to support Putin both in his battle against bribery and in his efforts to improve the socio-economic situation of Ingushes.

On January 17, a different statement came from an organization, called the Ingush Council of Coordination of Civilian Organizations: "The current administration has lost its control of the social politics as well as economics of Ingushetia. Incidents that have happened in the country are a clear signal of this. Security forces, for example, have not done anything at all in recent years to follow up the criminals who either killed or kidnapped civilians. Both police and legislation tend to ignore violations of human rights such as killings and kidnappings. Local administration deprived the public of its right to rally–something that the Russian Constitution allows."

On Friday, the people were distributed brochures right after Friday Prayers that to join the mass demonstration in support of Putin’s battle against bribery and corruption. In response to the upcoming mass rally against himself, Zyazikov was thinking of blockading it, reporters said. It was claimed that Ingush Interior Minister Musa Medov would order the distribution of brochures in support of Doku Umarov’s Caucasus Emirate. These brochures would be distributed in central places with large populations so that public confusion over people behind the upcoming mass rally. (Agency Caucasus )
