The Second Forum for Young Scientists of South Russia’ started in the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria on July 15 and ended on July 18. Over 80 young people from Moscow, St. Petersburg and North Caucasus came together in Prielbrus for the forum.
The forum was a social event organized cooperatively by two institutions–one is the local Agency in Kabardino-Balkaria of the Russian Young Scientists’ Association, the other is the State Committee of Youth and Social Affairs of Kabardino-Balkaria. The organizers expressed their hopes that they would be able to hold the forum every year.
Boris Pashtov, who chairs the State Committee of Youth and Social Affairs of Kabardino-Balkaria, said in his inaugural speech that North Caucasus relied for its own development on active participation of the young people in social, political and economic matters. "This forum will serve well to join the young people together and to make them work towards the realization of joint projects."
"Aside from sharing a joint interest in science, we are all citizens of Russia," said Aleksandr Sheglov, who presides over the Russian Young Scientists’ Association. "We should do things beyond science and think of what we can do for Russia."
While Timur Aliyev, Vice President of Russia’s puppet government in Chechnya and both federal and local representatives of the ministries of education and youth attended the forum, some Russian ministers sent their telegrams.
This forum provided an occasion for discussions about activities in science, education and modernization in the Federal Regions in the South, which Russian authorities think cover North Caucasus as well, about how to increase the socio-economic progress and efficiency, about fundamental priorities of the youth policies, about possible solutions to ecological problems.
