Caharkala/Agency Caucasus – Hasambek Zubayrayev, the Vedeno representative of the Chechen Ombudsmanship, and his family came under armed attack days after his announcement of the precautions taken by Chechnya’s President Ramzan Kadyrov against the Vostok troops that are out of his control.
Zubayreyev’s two daughters, Hedi at 5 and Mata Saydumova at 7, were killed, while Zubayrev, his father and brother were injured in the attack. While the Zubayrayevs were traveling in their cars on Sunday to Shali from Vedeno, a group of unidentified men came out of the woods and at once launched their attack.
Nurdi Nuhaciyev, the Chechen ombudsman, pointed at the likelihood that the Vostok troops might have planned this assault. "Zubayrayev, a man with a high education in religion, declared and supported the precautions, introduced by Kadyrov across the Vedeno region, after the Vostok incidents stirred the situation here. The same kind of attitude was taken by the entire ombudsmanship and human rights defenders. We cannot say for sure that the Vostok troops got involved in this attack; however, we have some grounded doubts that we think need to be dealt with while an inquiry is set into the attack," he said.
The Vostok troops, a military unit with Chechens in it, established by the Russian Defense Ministry against the Chechen Resistance, refused to give way to the convoy of Kadyrov in Gudermes on April 14, causing a fight for authority between Kadyrov and Sulim Yamadayev, Commander of the Vostok troops.
While Kadyrov seeks to get the Vostok troops abolished, Yamadayev expects Moscow to discard Kadyrov. KU/ÖZ/FT
