Bagapsh goes east for inspection

Sukhum/Agency Caucasus – President Sergei Bagapsh of Abkhazia had meetings with civilians and servicemen in Ochamchira and Gal, two regions in the south of Abkhazia where the Eastern Group units of the Abkhaz Armed Forces are situated.

Bagahpsh’s immediate entourage consisted of Stanislav Lakoba, who serves as Secretary of the Security Council, Merab Kishmariya, who is the Defense Minister of Abkhazia, Otar Hetsiya, who is assigned the role of the Interior Minister of Abkhazia, Nugzar Samsoniya, who is Deputy President of the State Council of Security, Grigori Yenik, who is Chairperson of the State Committee of Customs and Rezo Zantariya, who is General Manager of Chernomorenergo, a state-run company.

On the first leg of his trip to the east of Abkhazia, Bagapsh was at a military headquarters in Ochamchira, where he ordered that the conditions should be improved after he was briefed by senior members of the armed forces about the extent of technical capacity of the army.

Afterwards in Gal, home to the mingrelians, Bagapsh held a meeting in the town hall about the problems that have recurrently haunted the region. The meeting was centred on possible ways of keeping the level of local security high, distribution of an Abkhazian ID to the Gal residents, and improvements in fields of both health and education. The president ordered that the border between Georgia and Abkhazia should be protected better against potential violations and attacks.

Bagapsh later went to a border post and met with the members of an Eastern Group unit.
