Magas/Agency Caucasus – A mass demonstration was held on Wednesday night in Ingushetia in support for the release of Magomed Yevloyev, who had been detained the night before in Nazran, former capital city of Ingushetia.
A group of up to 300 demonstrators began gathering in mid night at the gas station in Nazran to move to Magas, capital of Ingushetia. The police, however, blocked entry through check points into the capital.
Musa Medov, Interior Minister of Ingushetia, talked to the demonstrators, among whom were there the relatives of Yevloyev as well. After Medov said that Yevloyev was kept in Magas, he promised that Yevloyev would be released on Thursday morning. This official promise to release Yevloyev worked well to persuade the demonstrators to disperse. However, the demonstrators said that they would rally over again in support of Yevloyev unless the official promise was kept.
Yevloyev is charged with taking part in works of preparation for a meeting that had been planned to take place in Nazran on January 26. KU/ÖZ/HT
