Power cuts in cold weather provokes public anger

Makhackala/Agency Caucasus – Frequent power cuts in Dagestan at a temperature of up to -10 degrees centigrade provoked angry public response.

Groups of 30 to 40 blocked roads in Dagestan’s capital city of Makhackala to traffic and protested against recent frequent power cuts. The protesters closed off the streets of Mir and Akushinski and some roads of the Ahmedhan district to traffic.

Similar protests happened in late December of 2007 as well, which the OMON troops had to use force to curb. KU/ÖZ/FT
