Kerimov set to serve as senator for Dagestan

Makhackala/Agency Caucasus – Suleyman Kerimov, famous businessman of Derbent origin, Dagestan, is set to serve on the Council of Russian Federation as a senator for his country.

All 56 Dagestan parliamentarians voted for Kerimov’s senatorial candidacy. Kerimov did not take part in the voting because he has to have his bandages replaced twice a day as part of his ongoing medical treatment since November 2006 when he crashed while he was driving his Ferrari Enzo brand of car in Nice, France. Kerimov was a member of the Duma last term. The Forbes magazine ranked him 35th among the richest people of the world.

Atay Aliyev, former senator for Dagestan, was dismissed at his own request. The Council of Russian Federation, higher wing of the Russian parliament, functions as an office of approval or disapproval for drafts adopted in the Duma. It has 175 representatives who come from republics, autonomous regions and regions, which, all combined, make up the Russian Federation. SKVKZ/ÖZ/FT
