Candidate for Presidency of North Osetia, Alan Kochiev was hospitalized

Tskhinval/Agency Caucasus – Leader of South Osetian People’s party said that detainee Alan Kochiev, who registered as candidate for presidency, was hospitalized as a result of hunger strike he started.

According to the Kelehsayev’s statement, Kochiev was placed in the intensive care unit on 4 September. He was transferred to a normal room yesterday, but his situation remains serious.

Kochiev registered for Presidency on 23 September. An investigation was started under the charges of beating parliamentarian Aleksandr Pliev. Kochiev started hunger strike on 30 Semtember. According to human rights defender Irana Gabaraeva’s explanation, Kochiev started hunger strike to protest President Eduar Kokoity’s violation of Constitution by restricting his right to be elected as president.

30 people applied to the Supreme Commission for Elections for the presidential elections which are going to take place on 14 November.

It was announced that restrictions were implemented on entrances to South Osetia from Russia on 4 October as a result of the events that broke out after Combolat Tedeev’s application for candidacy was turned down. Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Cioyev announced that the restrictions were removed yesterday.

One of the candidates for presidency and leader of opposing People’s party Roland Kelehsayev was beaten by unknown people on 3 October.
